Early Childhood Programs

Welcome!

Welcome to the Elmhurst Park District Early Childhood program. We offer enriching and educational programs for children ages 24 months to 3 years. All our instructors are CPR/AED certified and have a background in early childhood education. All classes meet year round from September through May. All programs are offered at the Wagner Community Center.

Little Butterflies and Wee Three’s programs run in two sessions from mid September through mid December and early January through mid May. Participants currently enrolled in either program will receive a pre-registration form in class. This form allows participants to continue in the early childhood program for the remainder of the year. Pre registration forms and full payment for term II of the 2010-2011 year will be due on Friday, November 19 by 9 p.m. Failure to submit form and payment by the required deadline may jeopardize your child’s spot for the remainder of the program.

Tinker Toddler Time and Huggy Bear Two’s programs run in two sessions from mid September through mid December and early January through mid May. Participants will need to register for these two programs during the fall and winter random draw seasons.

Lit'l Butterflies

Lit’l Butterflies is a year-long preschool program designed specifically for the 2-year-old who is ready to experience some separation time from a parent. Classes include active participation in arts, crafts, songs, stories, finger plays, basic socialization skills, parallel play, fine motor skills, group free play and large motor activities in the WCC Multipurpose Room A. Themes are incorporated each week through art projects, story time, and special snacks.

Wee Three’s

Wee Three’s is a year-long preschool program specifically offered for children who are not yet old enough to enter the Sunbeams and Rainbows preschool program because of the September 1 age cut-off date. This program is for children who will be 31 months before the first day of class, and wish to advance from the Huggy Bear Two’s program. Wee Three’s is a class full of arts, crafts, songs, stories, and creative expression. It also introduces basic large and fine motor skills and fosters a child’s interest in early preschool readiness programs. There is also active fun, friends, and bike ride time in the WCC Multipurpose Room A. Our teachers provide a warm and caring environment for children who are ready to attend class without their parents.

Tinker Toddler Time

The Tinker Toddler program is for children ages 12 months through 2 ½ years and their parent/caregiver. Participants will have fun through songs, finger plays, stories, games, and “friends together” time. New ideas are introduced throughout the year that are developmentally appropriate for this age group.

Huggy Bear Two’s

The Huggy Bear program is a unique learning and play experience for 2-year-old children and their parent/caregiver. This program provides an opportunity to meet in small groups and enjoy a variety of enriching and enjoyable activities. Children can choose from toys that promote imagination and coordination and a variety of art and tactile activities that appeal to all senses. Each class ends with a group story time, a “treat”, and a rousing march. New ideas are introduced throughout the year. Attandance by older or younger siblings is discouraged as this is a special time with your child.
