Programs

The Elmhurst Park District offers a wide variety of organized programs for all ages. From Tinker Toddler Time to Babysitting Basics for preteens to fun trips and specialty classes for adults, our goal is to provide recreational programs for all ages.

History of Elmhurst Park District Programs

In 1942, nearly 22 years after the organization of the Elmhurst Park District, the first organized recreation programs began. In 1958 the voters of the Park District approved an increase in the tax rate increasing funds available for maintenance and development and increasing the recreational program fund. Support for the referendum was provided by community groups, but was particularly important from the Recreation Council, a volunteer group formed for the promotion of increased recreation in Elmhurst. In 1960, the District’s first professional master plan was prepared and as a result a Director of Parks and Recreation was hired, followed in 1961 with the hiring of the first full-time Superintendent of Recreation, bringing the total number of full-time employees to seven.
